Essential Steps in Building a Concrete Swimming Pool

Swimming pools are a top recreation amenity for homes and commercial spaces. They add a touch to the good time you can spend outdoors, lounging with friends and loved ones. Today, there are many options when it comes to swimming pool construction. You have a range of materials at your disposal, but concrete stands out for its reliability and durability. The following piece discusses some of the critical steps involved in constructing a concrete swimming pool:

Excavation of the Site

Building a concrete swimming pool starts with excavating the desired site to create room for the pool. Start by marking the pool's perimeter with wooden or metal stakes coupled with a tread along the stakes. The tread helps to locate the area more accurately. When done marking, the next step is to excavate the demarcated area with a backhoe, which does a great job of digging and removing the loose earth.

Building the Base

The swimming pool's base plays a critical role in the structural integrity of the pool. It holds up to the pressure of the pool's water and keeps it from seeping into the underlying rocks and soil. Usually, contractors make the base flat and uniform. Any section with loose soil undergoes compaction by replacing the loose soil with a firmer, more compact soil profile.

Reinforcement and Concrete Laying

Steel reinforcement follows the excavation and preparation of the base. The objective is to set up steel bars around the pool to hold the concrete when builders start pouring it. Usually, the builders make a robust steel cage using a shotcrete procedure. The result is a reinforcing steel cage with no gap between the floor and the surrounding walls.

After builders make the reinforcing steel cage, the next step is to pour the concrete and let it cure for a few weeks.

Choosing and Installing the Filters

One of the crucial stages of building a concrete swimming pool is the selection and installation of filters. The filters keep unwanted material from entering the pool, and you have the following options at your disposal:

Sand filtration

Sand filtration is one of the simplest filtration accessories you can incorporate into your concrete swimming pool. It cleans the pools through backwashing. However, you will need to have in-built sewer drainage blended with the concrete construction.

Pocket filtration

Pocket filters are a disposable alternative that you can use to keep your pool clean. The only downside is that they need regular maintenance and replacement, which can be expensive for large swimming pools.
